Recycled orchestra

image-landfill-orchestra-instrumentsImagine a cello made from an oil can and pieces of wood, that were thrown in the garbage; a saxophone made of spoons and buttons.

In the barrios of Catuera, Paraguay, a humble garbage picker (with no previous experience making musical instruments) uses his ingenuity to craft instruments out of recycled materials and a “recycled orchestra” is born.

Landfill Harmonic shows how trash and recycled materials can be transformed into beautiful sounding musical instruments, but more importantly, it brings witness to the transformation of precious human beings.

This is a beautiful story about the transformative power of music.

Listen to the amazing sounds of these ‘recycled’ instruments and the inspiring hopes and dreams of the young people who play them…

Since this project has touched so many people in different parts of the world, the orchestra is looking forward to bringing similar programs in other communities around the globe.
